As Addie read through her impact statement, she did her best to hold back the tears as she described how she met the singer at a concert and how he later sexually assaulted her. “I had no idea that attending that concert in September of 1994 would alter my life in such a profound way,” she said at the time.
Angela, who identified Kelly as a “Pied Piper” figure who exploited children with his fame and wealth, spoke in a commanding tone while looking directly at him as she did so. She went on to say that Kelly preyed on children with his fame and wealth. She remarked that your level of wickedness increased with each new victim that you preyed upon. “You used your fame and power to groom and coach underage boys and girls for the purpose of satisfying your own sexual gratification by engaging in sexual activity with them,”
Angela stated that her moment in court and witnessing him receive justice was about reclaiming the identities of those who were harmed by him. She said, “We are no longer the individuals who were vulnerable to being taken advantage of like we once were.”
During the sentencing hearing for R. Kelly, the victims of his crimes gave emotional testimony about the impact that his crimes had on their lives. The American singer was sentenced to thirty years in prison as a result of the hearing.
Kelly did not appear to have much of a reaction or even look in the direction of the victims for the most part. But while the individual who was identified as Jane Doe No. 2 was testifying, Kelly began speaking to his attorney as she detailed her experiences of being abused.
She apologised to Kelly while raising her hand and looking in her direction. “I’m sorry,” she said. I don’t want to cut into what he’s saying because I find it interesting. She continued by saying, “I hope you spend the rest of your life behind bars.”
Another woman who identified herself as Faith shared her thoughts while her father stood by her side.
“I pray that you’ll be able to forgive yourself… “I forgive myself,” she told Kelly. “I’m sorry.” Her father consoled her as she burst into tears, and after she had finished, he had a private conversation with the singer.
“I didn’t come here to bash Mr. Kelly,” he said when asked about his intentions. “I do want to ask you, Mr. Kelly, to look at me as a man to a man and as a father to a father. Imagine that you are in my position. Kelly, on the other hand, did not react in any way and did not look at him.
